RTNDA Canada announces 2006 British Columbia Regional Award Recipients

VANCOUVER, June 21 /CNW/ - RTNDA Canada, The Association of Electronic
Journalists has honoured the best in electronic journalism in the B.C. region
in 2006. RTNDA Canada presented the coveted RTNDA Awards at the B.C. Regional
Awards Gala in conjunction with the RTNDA National Conference this evening in
Vancouver.
This year RTNDA Canada created five new award categories to recognize
outstanding videography, use of sound, new media, information programming and
diversity.
The RTNDA "Diversity Tool Kit" which was released across the country in
January offers practical solutions to bring diversity to our stories and to
our newsrooms. To acknowledge those accomplishments RTNDA created a new
Diversity Award. Congratulations to CBC News: Canada Now and CBC Radio
Vancouver for winning the inaugural awards in the B.C. region.
Six television and six radio stations received a prestigious RTNDA Canada
Excellence in Broadcast Journalism award. Global took home four of the
television awards followed by CFJC-TV Kamloops and CBC News Vancouver with
three awards each. Other winners included A-Channel Vancouver Island and CTV
Vancouver.
Radio winners included CKOV Kelowna, CBC Victoria and C-FAX 1070 Victoria
in the Medium Market category. In the Large Market, honours went to
CKNW AM 980 Vancouver, CBC Radio Vancouver and News 1130 (CKWX) Vancouver.
"Congratulations to all the winners" said RTNDA President Bob McLaughlin.
"This is an incredible accomplishment and it shows the quality journalism is
thriving in Canada."
The B.C. Regional winners go on to compete for the RTNDA National Awards
to be presented at the RTNDA National Conference in Vancouver on
June 23, 2007.
