RTNDA announces 2006 National & Network Award Recipients

VANCOUVER, June 23 /CNW/ - RTNDA Canada, The Association of Electronic
Journalists has honoured the best in electronic journalism in Canada. RTNDA
Canada presented the coveted RTNDA Awards at the National Awards Gala this
evening in Vancouver.
This year RTNDA Canada created five new award categories to recognize
outstanding videography, use of sound, new media, information programming and
diversity.
The RTNDA "Diversity Tool Kit" which was released across the country in
January offers practical solutions to bring diversity to our stories and to
our newsrooms. To acknowledge those accomplishments RTNDA created a new
Diversity Award. Congratulations to Global Calgary, CBC Radio 99.1 Toronto,
CBC National Radio News and The Weather Network for winning these inaugural
national/network awards.
National TV winners include Global Calgary, Global Winnipeg and Global BC
with four awards in total and CTV BC, CTV Toronto and CTV Regina with a total
of four awards. Other winning stations include CBC North Yellowknife,
A-Channel London, CHAT-TV Redcliff, CHBC-TV Kelowna, Citytv Toronto, Citytv
Calgary and CBC News Vancouver.
National Radio winners include Mix 106 (CIXK-FM) Owen Sound, CJLS
Yarmouth, CKOV Kelowna, Newstalk 610 CKTB St. Catharines, CJAD Montreal, AM
800 CKLW Windsor, and CBC Montreal, Toronto and Saskatchewan.
In the Network TV category, CTV took home six awards followed by CBC with
five and The Weather Network with one.
The Network Radio awards were dominated by CBC with seven. Broadcast
News, NTR and News Talk Radio 980 CJME Regina each received one award.
"Congratulations to all the winners," said RTNDA President Bob
McLaughlin. "This is an incredible accomplishment and it shows the quality
journalism is thriving in Canada."
