Stars of Broadcast Journalism featured at sold out conference

TORONTO, June 19 /CNW/ - RTNDA CANADA is pleased to announce an all-star
journalistic line-up for this year's National RTNDA Conference. The sold-out
event will be held this weekend June 21-23 at the Sutton Place Hotel in
Vancouver.
The conference will feature several high profile speakers. Peter
Mansbridge, Lloyd Robertson and Kevin Newman, the anchors of Canada's top
three networks, will lead a session on the changing face and new
responsibilities of electronic journalism.
Peter Mansbridge will also receive this year's RTNDA President's Award
for his numerous contributions to broadcast journalism in Canada.
RTNDA is pleased to welcome former Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson to
this year's conference. The RTNDA's new award recognizing diversity in
broadcast journalism has been named after her, and she will present the
inaugural trophies.
The theme of this year's conference is "Inspiring Change!" The sessions
will provide electronic journalists concrete "take home" material to deal with
the rapidly changing news environment in Canada. Friday morning's
"super-session" kicks off the conference with a look at the future of news in
Canada.
Joining the list of speakers are Dr Sanjay Gupta from CNN, Bob Dotson
from NBC, Al Tompkins of the Poytner Institute and Brian Williams of CTV who
will lead a debate on coverage of the Olympics. Capping off the weekend will
be the presentation of the prestigious RTNDA National Awards at a ceremony to
be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre and hosted by Global's Peter Kent
and ET Canada's Kim D'eon.
"More than 300 journalists will attend this year's annual convention - a
record number", notes RTNDA president, Bob McLaughlin. "That attendance speaks
to the excellence of our guest speakers, the enthusiasm for debate about our
craft, and the growing influence of RTNDA as THE voice broadcast news in
Canada."
