Terry Scott to receive RTDNA President's Award

TORONTO, May 9, 2012 /CNW/ - RTDNA Canada - The Association of Electronic Journalists - is pleased to announce that Terry Scott, Director of Broadcasting at The Canadian Press, is this year's recipient of the RTDNA President's Award. RTDNA's highest honour is presented annually to individuals or groups that have brought distinction to, or made major contributions to, broadcast journalism.

"Terry Scott's impact on the Canadian broadcasting scene over the past thirty-seven years has been significant," said RTDNA Canada President Andy LeBlanc. "I've only known Terry for a few of those years and I've witnessed his continuous and passionate contribution to the industry and our Association." Terry caught what he calls the "news bug" working on the school newspaper and taking journalism classes during high school in Saskatchewan in the early seventies. He worked as a weekend news anchor at CKOM Saskatoon before graduating from high school and immediately landed a full time job at the station. At only 18 years of age, the young Terry Scott had moved on to CKCK Radio in Regina and also produced and sometimes broadcast the Noon News on CKCK Television. He finished off the 70s with stints at CKGM Montreal and CFTR Toronto, and then jumped to "The Big 8" CKLW Windsor-Detroit in 1980, just missing the 20/20 news era. Terry then moved to CKSL/CIQM-FM London for a few years until joining Broadcast News as Supervising Editor in 1990. He helped in the shift to combine the BN and CP newsrooms. Two decades later, he oversees the broadcast related business for The Canadian Press as Director of Broadcasting.

Terry's active participation in RTDNA Canada includes numerous official roles; Awards Chair, President, Past President and he currently serves on the boards of both RTDNA Canada and RTDNA International.  His dedication also extends to keeping our membership informed each week, volunteering countless hours editing our weekly newsletter, the Update. The RTDNA President's Award will be presented to Terry Scott at the President's Awards Gala Friday, June 22 during RTDNA Canada's 50th Anniversary National Conference at Toronto's Sheraton Centre Hotel, June 21 to 23, 2012.
